ITEM OVERVIEW
Common perception of women during wartime relegates them to the sidelines of history—working in munitions factories, or waiting for their men to return. The truth is that much of the resistance to fascism should be chalked up to the people whom official accounts have nothing to say. Partisanas excavates the history of women who planted bombs, shouldered guns, and were among the most active particpants in the European Resistance. This first English-language edition was translated by Paul Sharkey and is Introduced by Martha Ackelsberg, author of Free Women of Spain.
Ingrid Strobl is a filmmaker, lecturer, and writer living in Cologne, Germany.
